I wanna address a touchy subject in skincare Twitter but idk if today is the day after the Vaseline chaos this morning lol.
I started this specific skincare page back in 2016. I honestly did not imagine it would grow to this size, ever. I would just do threads that would get a few likes and RTs. And then in 2018, a thread of mine randomly blew up overnight. (This is important to my point I promise)
And since then, there’s something I’ve observed in this community, that affects essentially all online communities, but it’s rarely ever addressed by the people who indirectly perpetuate it (bigger accounts).
It’s natural to want to trust those with bigger platforms more. But the degree in which we idolize estheticians or skincare influencers with large followings cannot be healthy or normal, tbh. It just can’t. And I only recently realized how abnormal it is when I decided to expand.
For those who don’t know I recently added an AMAZING esthetician to the team. His name is Bryce and he’s been doing consultations under Cave of Beauty since September. His @ on here is @brycexanthony. Me trusting him with my clients is reflective of my views on his work. And yet.
AND YET. I’ve had emails from people who have scheduled a consultation with him saying that they want to cancel because it’s not *me* and they want *me*. Y’all. This has gone too far honestly. And it really needs to stop. I am NOT the only professional who can provide results.
It’s actually ridiculous at this point. Yes, I am extremely talented at treating inflammatory conditions. It’s what I specialize in. It’s what I do best. But, that doesn’t mean that I am the ONLY esthetician who can do so. There are plenty who simply don’t have a large following.
And I need you guys to trust them too. This following does not make me any better of a professional than someone with a smaller platform. It doesn’t make me incapable of being wrong. I am not above reproach. I am not the world’s only esthetician. Like pls let’s stop this 😭
There have been too many instances of y’all disrespecting “smaller” estheticians by tagging myself or my colleagues with large platforms in their tweets to verify their information. STOP DOING THAT TO THEM. I am not with that at all. And I ignore it almost every single time.
I need y’all to stop acting like only I can be right about acne or only Tiara can be right about sunscreen or any other topic. There are soooo many other accounts on here that share amazing information. Follow some cosmetic chemists! @estherolu_ and @LabMuffin are my favs.
This has really been bothering me lately because I have plans to hire some amazing estheticians in the next few months for Cave of Beauty and at Skin Wins, and I worry that their skills and expertise won’t be trusted because they don’t have a large following. It’s not right.
I’m in a position to change the lives of other black estheticians by providing them with fulfilling and well paid careers. But that isn’t possible if y’all (their potential clients) feel like they’re just not good enough if they don’t have the following that I do.
It also has been bothering me because I’ve worked SO hard during this pandemic and I’m exhausted. I’ve taken on more clients than I can handle just because the demand was there and I almost felt guilty turning people away? I instead decided to expand so I can manage the demand.
I say that to say: I’m tired. And I can’t continue being the best service provider if you guys don’t allow me to accept the help I NEED from other professionals. And I can’t do so if you all don’t trust other professionals. Can y’all please work on that for me and for them? :/
I hope that you all can trust me enough to know that I wouldn’t onboard anyone that I was not fully confident in. Anyone who works under me has to share the same philosophy that I do about maintaining the overall health of the skin by limiting inflammation. And they always will.
That’s my promise to you all that I would only trust someone who can treat my skin, to treat your skin. And I’m VERY particular about who I trust with my skin. Promise me you’ll trust other estheticians, regardless of their platform, as long as their information is correct? 🥺💙
For reference, this is Bryce’s work! He’s truly so talented and you’ll be seeing him at the spa soon as well ☺️ but if you’re not local and you’d like to schedule a virtual consultation with him, the link is http://caveofbeauty.as.me . He has availability all month! 🥳 https://twitter.com/brycexanthony/status/1326701022811725828
