Quick story: My father was a sports reporter. (So was my uncle, and also my great-grandfather. It's kind of a family curse that none of us are smart enough for real jobs.)

One day, my dad had an interview scheduled with Bob O'Billovich, who was coach of the Argos. 1/5
My dad had a problem, though. It was a PA Day. I was home from school. We did not live in Toronto. We lived in the suburbs. The only solution: My dad had to take me to Toronto.

We drive into the city. To a nine-year-old me, it was a like a drive into Las Vegas. The lights! 2/5
We get to Exhibition Stadium. My dad gets out. He does not invite me out of the car.

He leans in and tells me to wait in the car while he goes in for the interview.

The empty weekday parking lot looked vast, windswept and dangerous. I'm sure I heard a lone wolf's howl. 3/5
Then, as now, I spooked easily. I ran into the Argos' business office. The kindly executive assistant went into a room.

Two men emerged. My father was first. Or, rather, the crimson, you're-in-SUCH-trouble-when-we-get-home version of my father.

O'Billovich was second. 4/5
O'Billovich smiled and put a brand new Argos hat on my head. He gave me a matching Argos pennant and invited me into the office while he finished the interview with my dad.

The logo on that cap is the one the team's just redesigned. It is, for many reasons, my favourite. 5/5
