#CLST6 For this #RR21 thread, I wanted to use what we learned about funerary graves / remains / monuments and how this becomes relevant in today’s world. I just recently stumbled upon a CNN article, revealing how archaeologists just announced today that they have unearthed ...
a huge number of sealed Egyptian sarcophagi (article attached). I immediately thought back to how we can speculate these remains and what we learned from Professor Dibble’s lecture.
As we know, there are a few different ways that archaeologists can look at these remains from these tombs / graves. One way, for example, is that we can compare different periods relative to another grave.
We can tell what settlements did not survive as well depending on what they used to build funerary materials (i.e. if they were built out of more perishable materials).
On the other hand, these Egyptian sarcophagi reveal a more surviving settlement, as they present a high-quality, artistic, wooden structure.
