"...but exactly what Rep. voters hunger for. They don’t want deregulation, or a lower marginal tax rate, or even The Wall. What they want is the liberation to talk freely about the people they hate."
I don't think this describes 72M trump voters - but its a sizable portion.

To be clear - hate does not belong to one party or another, one side of the political spectrum or the other - it is an equal opportunist.
How does one defeat hate? It's not through policy arguments, better messaging, or tweets or yelling at people thanksgiving dinner.

@cpicciolini's book "Breaking Hate" makes the case that we break hate through acts of love. Now this is a book about helping people escape violent extremist groups - neo-Nazis, incels, & Islamist jihadists - but I wonder if we could apply it in our present political context?
He says he wins "back frightened hearts and manipulated minds through empathy, humanization and reflection." ... "People must be held accountable for their actions...but I also know that receiving unexpected (often unwarranted) compassion from someone...
"...we might not otherwise show to ourselves is the only thing I've ever seen truly break hate."
for the Christian, this is the principle of turning the other cheek.
It's radical to love someone that hates you. (Some would say impossible to truly do outside of empowerment of Christ). But that's how we heal.
Sobering. We have much work ahead of us. /fin
