This Wednesday, the UK government is rumoured to announce it will phase out the sale of all new polluting cars and vans by 2030.

If the rumours are true, this would be a major milestone in the fight against the climate crisis. It would also put Britain in pole position in the race to seize the jobs and economic opportunities of an electric future. [2/7]
But we have heard that the government is considering a potentially massive loophole, allowing new hybrids to be phased out at a later date than new petrol and diesel cars and vans.
[3/7]

The problem is that all hybrids produce tonnes of emissions - much more than electric vehicles. Keeping new hybrids coming onto the roads beyond 2030 would jeopardize the UKâs chances of meeting our legally binding carbon reduction targets.

Mild, full or conventional hybrids are pretty much the same as petrol or diesel vehicles. They can only be driven on electric power for short distances at low speeds, or in the case of mild hybrids, only in conjunction with a combustion engine. [5/7]
Itâs crucial the government phases out hybrids by 2030, too. Help make this happen: https://act.gp/2Uujqjc [6/7]
