Some DK Metcalf

Do elite corners get the best of Metcalf? (a thread)

Plus a little preview of my TNF @RotoBaller analysis.
Let me know what you think

2. This season, DK Metcalf has scorched the fantasy earth with his flashy athleticism and insane production. He is a dominant receiver both in fantasy and real life. Plus, having one of the most historically efficient QB’s tossing the rock creates the perfect storm for production
3. Clearly, there are many varying opinions on how much Russ contributes to the success of his #1 target, however, that isn’t what this thread is about. I would like to address a few matchups this year that may showcase that DK is still a developing young WR.
4. This season, DK has faced five “shut down” corner matchups. Week 2 vs. Gilmore and Jackson, Week 5 vs. Howard, Week 7 vs. Patrick Peterson, Week 9 vs. White, and Week 10 vs. Ramsey. Here is a quick breakdown of these matchups.
5. Week 2 vs. NE. Gilmore is obviously an elite corner, however, so is J.C Jackson. In this game 59% of Metcalf’s yards came on a 54 yard touchdown reception. He is a big play guy, however outside of that one play this corner tandem held him to only 3 rec for 38 yards.
6. Week four he devoured Xavien Howard for 4 catches and 106 yards. He clearly got it done here, although Howard still left with an interception...
Now, back to week 2. This may be viewed as “selective” to remove one play. But what happens if he doesn’t get that big play? We saw that in Week 7 against Patrick Peterson where he caught 2 of 5 targets for 23 yards; a very similar stat line to the NE game without the TD.
8. Week 9 vs. Buffalo. This elite defence has been disappointing to their standards. White is still an elite corner. In this game Metcalf had a 41 yard reception, but was able to get work done between the 20’s and redzone - He flat out beat the coverage in this one.
9. Week 10 with one of the three best corner’s of the season so far. Ramsey shadowed Metcalf and absolutely locked him down. So much so, that Wilson stopped looking in Metcalf’s direction. Finishing with two receptions for 28 yards. Once again, very similar to Weeks 2 & 7
10. this week we get to see him against Peterson again, and for me, this is “make or break” on my theory. If he gets shutdown again, I think it will be time to admit that as of this season, he is not the alpha that is coverage proof (ex. Nuk, Adams, MT, Jones). Cont.
11. Instead he is much like Tyreek Hill of old, where in tough matchups he is super reliant on one big play, otherwise there has the potential to lose your fantasy week. Thankfully, he devours good matchups and is still a WR1.
12. I’m proposing he is the WR1 you need a consistent floor guy to pair with him (Kenan Allen, ARob) much like Amari Cooper or Hill. Therefore, taking him out if my Dynasty top 3 until he shows to overcome said coverage.
It’ll be a huge test this week, stay tuned for my preview!
