Reminder that anti-depressant meds only work for about 50-60 percent of people, it isnât your fault if meds donât work for you and there ARE alternatives that are safe and effective backed up by medical science.
Heck, I guess Iâll make a thread. Iâm not a doctor, medical professional or a therapist but I educated myself on these other treatments because I struggled with meds for 25 years.
Starting with TMS: trans magnetic stimulation therapy. You sit in a chair with high powered magnets. The idea being to stimulate underactive areas in depressed brains. Each session takes 20 mins to an hour.
Pros: non invasive, sessions are short, nothing to remember to take every day when youâre done. Success rate of 70-80 percent
Cons: treatment takes a long time and commitment, about 2 months, can be hard to find and expensive. Many insurance wonât cover.

ECT: electroconvulsive therapy. You are put under anestesia and small electric currents are passed through your brain, triggering intentional seizures.
Pros: safe, with a lot of evidence behind it. Nothing to remember to take every day.
Cons: some memory loss potentially, general anesthesia. I donât know much about this but @BacklineNurse has a really good thread on it with a video that yâall should watch.
