/A random RANT on things I wish were different. I wish someone had told me that my time is my most valuable asset & that determining how I use it in academia is my most powerful tool.
/I wish physicians weren't socialized to believe that their mastery of knowledge in a clinical discipline doesn't make them natural leaders for anything. Particularly when I think leadership (like writing) is a skill that needs practice, foundational information, and philosophy.
/I wish URGENCY wasn't a thing. It is the worst characteristic of white supremacy culture. That folx want a quick fix to resolve 400 years of racism with meetings, taskforces, and other performative activities is a missed opportunity to do the hard, deep work that will last
/I wish folx could consider that all success comes with some kind of tradeoffs. I wish that folx could understand everyone's path in the world is different - you can teach some tools, but much of it is circumstances (right place/time) and courage (shoot your shot)
/I wish everyone had listed in March when Arundhati Roy said the pandemic is a portal. We could have already made so many things different. It is hard to see space/time bend on each other & look at where we have landed. There were & ARE so many different futures we could choose
END/Finally, I wish that folx would find the courage to do what needs to be done, wash hands, stay home, wear a mask, take the pandemic seriously & get the virus under control. We will never rescue the economy if the virus continues to run rampant. This is essential public health
