We will not find gender equality until we stop treating masculinity as an inherently toxic and problematic thing. This thinking hurts trans men and women, non-binary and early transitioning folks, and it leaves cis men feeling like there is no room for them to exist
This is a reaction Iâm having to seeing controversial posts claiming that cis/het men wearing dresses is just for attention and is just another example of toxic masculinity. In this view, what way is a cis man allowed to be that isnât âproblematicâ?
And whatâs wrong with dressing some way to get attention? Attention is nice! We all love attention, it fucking sustains us!
This is why I love the word âhimboâ so much. Itâs non-toxic masculinity... Itâs an ideal we can look up to!

As important as it is that we show femininity as a strength and not a weakness, we should have examples of non-toxic masculinity for people to look up to as well... because masculinity does not have to be an inherently dangerous or bad thing!
Okay so if you got this far... whatâs your favorite example of a wholesome masculine role model?
