I think what concerns me most about this urgent push to release a vaccine to the public is the leniency that’s following with the precaution we should all be taking still even after the vaccine is released, everybody needs to continue social distancing and wearing their masks. 1/
Vaccines are a medical marvel allowing us to boost our immune systems as a preventive measure from infection risks which can lead to disease. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t caveats involved within this, after the process of inoculation it takes time for your 2/
body to build resistance towards the foreign bodies and produce the lymphocytes (B & T) responsible for defending you should there be any uneventful exposure to the disease you built immunity towards. Because of that there is a “buffer” period for this to fully take effect. 3/
It is absolutely possible to come in contact with a disease and become infected before receiving a vaccine and even afterwards still produce symptoms because your body hasn’t built enough immunity yet to neutralize it at a significant capacity. 4/
So, that’s why it’s so important when this vaccine is released that we all have to do our part to continue sanitizing, wearing masks, and practicing social distancing to ensure that we build immunity as a community together effectively because herd immunity matters! 5/
Furthermore, let’s not forget about fomites which are inanimate objects that can carry infectious agents! We have the ability to carry contaminated materials on our person and we have to consider that there will be time gaps between people that will receive the vaccine. 6/
It’s likely everyone won’t be able to receive the vaccine all at once based on the volume of doses that are available. That being said we have to make sure as distribution increases across the public that we do our part to minimize exposing others to Covid19. 7/
I also want to take a moment to share how proud I am of everyone for hanging in there it’s been a tough year and there have been so many sacrifices, loss, and struggles that this pandemic has placed on us and yet you all have managed to push through and persevere. 8/
