It's been good to be in communication w friends in the UK. At the start of COVID, I assumed the NHS would address the pandemic much better than US patchwork private-public bs system. But when I was in NYC, it was easy to get tested. Friends in UK tell me they can't get tested. https://twitter.com/JohnSurico/status/1328358123506192386
Of course, NHS prevents one major form of viral health catastrophe - people in the UK don't go for a procedure that drives them into financial ruin (which creates other health catastrophes). But even w NHS, racial disparities remain. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/coronavirus-britain-black-people-likely-die/
The US is NOT reflected at large by the NYC department of health. We have such a patchwork system, and it can create debt that create materially harmful health disparities (up to and including death) NHS does not.

All of this is to say, I hear Gillian Anderson is winning some of y'all over as Margaret Thatcher on The Crown. Don't be fooled! Remember, Thatcher (and, yes, Major, Blair, Brown, Cameron and May) have stripped the NHS for parts that, when it's most urgently needed, it's limping
