We’re kicking off our meeting discussing all things #menstrualwellbeing with @totmorganic, @EndometriosisUK, @seeherthrive & @BintiPeriod. Follow along here for updates 👇 #womenandwork
Our co-chair @jessphillips sets the scene for the meeting and why it’s so important that we’re having this discussion - 72% of women experience painful periods, 10% experience PCOS and 10% experience endometriosis.
Nancy West from @totmorganic says this discussion is about period dignity and about access to essentials. She says we need to normalise periods. In 2020, periods still remain taboo despite it being a part of life for half the population.
. @totmorganic has conducted research which showed that 88% of employees have been caught short at work but over half are not comfortable to ask a colleague for support. 80% of women have no period provision at work, not even a paid vending machine.
Nancy West @totmorganic says there’s a clear business case for providing period products in the workplace, just like workplaces provide hand soap and toilet paper. It goes a long way in starting conversations around menstruation and ensuring women feel valued and understood.
Faye Farthing from @EndometriosisUK talks about how misunderstood menstrual health conditions are. Employers are pivotal in this but so many HR policies and practices penalise those with menstrual conditions @endoAPPG
Nancy West @totmorganic provides recommendations for the workplace and the Government. There’s so much still to be done to open the conversation up around menstruation. She highlights the importance of employers listening to the lived experience from those who menstruate.
Both @jessphillips and @Laura__Farris agree that having period products provided in workplaces makes women feel welcome, valued and comfortable.
