Covid-19 has reshaped urban landscapes, while the climate crisis intensifies. As the COP26 host city, Glasgow can lead the way with a green recovery. @Cmmonwealth and @Groundlab_ltd have made beautiful illustrations visualising a Green New Deal Glasgow.

Preparing Glasgow for the risks of climate breakdown will require action. By using nature-based resilience strategies, like afforestation, Glasgow can help mend its relationship with its surrounding landscape; and by restoring the streams and then Clyde, we can tackle flooding.
From carbon emissions to road accidents, a public realm built around cars means outdoors can be stressful or unsafe, particularly for vulnerable people and carers. Accessible streets, wide pavements, and municipal electric vehicles can help tackle this.

The deep crisis faced by high streets across the UK has a direct impact on communities and the health of individuals. This will require Community Wealth Building approaches and ensure Glasgow’s communities can take the lead in its stewardship.

Glasgow’s iconic tenements are a central pillar of the city’s landscape. A retrofitting revolution to create net-zero, decent homes for all can create good local jobs in rooted supply chains, tackle fuel poverty, and create shared spaces for communities.
