In carnage there is opportunity. Our school system has been in decline for decades and we now have a perfect opportunity to start reinventing the United State's future. We've been resting on our laurels far too long. I humbly offer these ideas as a starting point. 1/5
Summer vacation was designed to help farmers harvest crops. Year-round classes with frequent, shorter vacations makes more sense. Two month breaks are especially challenging forfamilies with 2 working parents, not to mention getting kids back in the groove after their break. 2/5
Vocational training! Not everyone should go to 4-year college. From brick and mortar trades to IT, it is time to balance the boundless opportunities that makes the US exceptional with the reality that for many, a satisfying trade without debt is the path to a healthy economy. 3/5
Living in a democracy has privileges and obligations! Mandatory National Service for all kids after HS or at 18. NS could include military service, the Peace Corps & initiatives involving teaching, health and wellness, infrastructure and local and regional security. 4/5
Bring Civics back to class rooms. From kindergarten and up, we've lost our way and need to teach children not only the freedom our way of life provides but the responsibilities that come with citizenry. With the US education system in shambles we have a unique opportunity! 5/5
