A note on vaccines. The numbers we are seeing from Moderna and Pfizer are efficacy, not effectiveness. Efficacy is a number calculated during clinical trials - these are highly controlled circumstances and 1/?
participants are carefully selected. Even though there are 30,000 or more participants, that does not mean they are representative of the population. So efficacy tends to be higher within clinical trials than effectiveness would be 2/3
in the real world setting. Keep that in mind when interpreting the 90% or 95% that we see in reporting. They are reporting how efficacious the vaccines are, not how effective we can expect them to be in the world. 3/3 #coronavirus #vaccines
