1) The US government acts like stimulus is some problematic thing. In fact, the idea is over 2000 years old. The Roman Empire had a system called Cura Annona by which free bread (and later olive oil, meat, and wine) was distributed to everyone. What’s more ⬇️
2) The Romans passed a law known as “lex Iulia de annona” which outlawed behaviour by businessmen and officials that would contribute to food price increases. It also outlawed speculation in food market prices. The Roman government controlled food prices to keep it affordable.
3) An excerpt from Ulpian regarding the law: “By the lex Iulia de annona a penalty is prescribed against him who commits any act, or forms any association by means of which the price of provisions may be increased.”
In other words, they would jail their Wall Streeters.
4) The Roman government spent a lot of money to maintain the Cura Anonna system. They also spent a lot of money on huge aqueduct engineering projects to give free water to their people. On top of that, they maintained a huge military. So what does this mean? ⬇️
5) The Romans were able to provide both social programs AND a huge military. But here goes the US government with far more resources and technology claiming it can’t do this? Shit, the Romans maintained this system without computers! Without even a modern numeral system!
