I saw someone on a thread saying that as the UK imports 1/3 of lamb consumption & exports 1/3 then the UK is completely sustainable when it comes to that commodity. Unfortunately that's not right because of a little thing called carcass balance & country specific consumption 1/3
That means the bits that we import are the cuts that we eat such as leg, chops and shoulder. While we export, mutton, hearts, neck etc. Even though after the 2008 recession consumers widened the type of meat we eat, there is still loads we don't eat in UK. 2/3
So unless we can start eating lamb offal stew there will still be a carcass imbalance & if we can't sell our left over parts that means less money for the farmers & costs go up to UK households as the inputs will still cost the same or more to produce the meat. #WeNeedADeal END
