long rant thread:
u know what makes me angriest about k/a is that *bc* its canon it should've done more to address aangs individual character development - not to mention the sexist treatment of katara. like why was she supposed to 'come around'??? aang kisses her without consent

TWICE and not once does he apologise for it?? i hate br*ke for their the shitty characterisation of aang as someone who wouldn't apologise for hurting katara. aang would absolutely have understood if she didnt reciprocate his feelings and for him to nod like *that*??? during EIP
when the play says that katara is "the avatar's girl"??? so ur telling me a 12yo MONK would actually think of a girl he *loves* as a possession??? his feelings for katara started off cute but the endgame writing turned katara into some kind of prize for him to be won and its so
upsetting that k/a shippers are so defensive of this writing (and im not even touching those fucking comics or tlok here) when the canon removes katara's autonomy and disrespects her like that. if k/a was to be made a canon ship, how much more powerful would it have been for aang
to apologise for his possessive (and frankly rude) behaviour? think of the message it sent to young fans that women somehow *owe* ~nice men~ reciprocation of their feelings even as they invalidate ours and disrespect our boundaries. my issue has never been with k/a being canon bc
i genuinely think they could have been a sweet ship BUT i take issue with their treatment in the writing, particularly as kataras forced into a caretaking role for her boyfriend (aang CANONICALLY cant deny she isnt motherly to him) & her feelings are given no time for development
and i also cant accept shippers who are ok with the writing of aang either?? this child discovers his entire civilisation has been killed off and we only rlly get 2 eps out of 61 where we really see him try to come to terms with his loss. even in book 3 when he takes on the name
of kuzon, we never actually get to see him reflect on the pre-war fire nation he remembers or mourn the loss of culture beyond (lets be honest) a shallow dance party which is used instead as a vehicle for ~romance~. like how are you going to write a whole show about this child
coming to accept his responsibilities but not actually confront issues central to his character arc in favour of romance??? like the CANONICAL presentation of this ship pisses me off so much and the reason i cant stand canon shippers is...THIS? IS WHAT UR DEFENDING?? SERIOUSLY???
like i see zks fight the yt girlies who write capture fics or other problematic takes in our fandom but i have yet to see a k/a that doesnt defend the shitty canon writing that made their ship endgame. pls respect ur fave characters more than that thnx
