In early 1941 he joined the LRDG. He took part in the rescue of the SAS men of Op Squatter (he is the shadow in the photo). He was awarded the MC in 1941 and the DSO in 1942. 2/
Easonsmith took over as CO LRDG in October 1943 as it left N Africa and headed to the Greek Islands. In this photo he is in the centre with, on his left, Gus Holliman who would go on to command 5 RTR in 1944-45. 3/
He was killed on 16 November 1943 on the island of Leros. He is buried in the War Cemetery on island. 4/4
