2. committee or APROB (ie appointment, promotion and recruitment board)? The good p'ple who developed the AUC structure in the trenches knew that chairs and for that matter appointed AUC officials will find it hard to say no to Af. leaders & built institutions to protect them...

3. But for some reason it seems they are not working. Now p'ple are being fired from the chairperson's office on instructions of a single member state. AUC statements are now issued in chairperson's name instead of the collective wisdom & cover of the commission and so on...

4. Some will point to these as evidence of the emergence of the cult of personality and centralization of powers in AUC. Others will note that the sacking process has effectively killed any hope that the chairperson's office can serve as a good office to the Ethiopian parties...

5. It'll now be hard for some to see the AUC as an impartial/honest broker. The impression has been created that a member state can just write to the chair to get a staff fired/perhaps hired. Hope the right lessons will be learned & layered decision-making will run the AUC show.
