Massive trend of people turning to alternative therapies because hospitals are busy with COVID patients. [Thread]
Those who have followed me long enough know that I am very sceptical about alternative therapies.
So there's this lady who has chronic hypertension (high blood pressure). Her doc said it spiked to some crazy level and she would have to be admitted, but no beds available.
So she saw people discussing HIJAMA (cupping) - a procedure which was advocated for by Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).
Which really makes zero sense.
If you go for cupping/hijama due to your belief in Prophetic wisdom, do so for that purpose. "Rasoolullah said it is good, so I will do it."
But use your God given mind and think for yourself too.

So the patient described the venue as a peaceful place with lots of greenery and a quiet environment.
Her BP went down, and she enjoyed a night of good sleep after weeks of insomnia.

So, was the hypertension alleviated by "removing the bad blood" or the serene and relaxing environment she spent a few hours at? What is the role of religious piety and the placebo effect?
"Look how dark the blood is," we are told.

I will never forget the few days I would wake up with intense nose bleeds and blood stained pillowcases.
It was the saffron ingredient in an over the counter "health tonic" called Kesari Jeevan. Saffron is a vasodilator.
Be careful. Tell your doctor everything.
