A thread on how the #SooraraiPottru writers, Shalini Ushadevi and Sudha Kongara, seamlessly feed vital information to the viewer while also kickstarting a romance between Maara and Bommi.
The art director designs the location with a board containing the pictures and newspaper clippings of Maara's idol(who is later revealed to be Paresh Goswami). The pics are a visual way to establish a connection (not yet known to both Bommi and the viewer) b/w Maara & his idol.
The main objective of Bommi(who, like Maara, wants to start a business) in the scene is to find out how to start a bakery. Bommi's first dialog in the scene is her trying to find out whether the town has a bakery.
Naturally, she becomes curious when she asks him about his business.
When Maara ignores her query by bringing up the number of men who have said no to her, Bommi fearlessly counters it by talking about the banks' rejection. It shows Maara, and the viewer, that she's really keen to know how a business gets set up.
Maara ignores her question with 'Avangalukku avalo dhaan arivu' & Bommi does not give up when she responds with 'Andha 20 peruku appadi dhaan arivu'.By comparing the banks with the grooms,Bommi shows her determination to get her answer by showing Maara that she's as smart as him.
Bommi takes it one step further by stating that it may be straightforward after all to start an airline. But, Maara again refuses her intention to know more about starting a business by saying that it's easier to start a bakery.
When Bommi mentions that she's in step 1,she shows that she's also following the same process, but in a different business. When she asks him about Venture Capitalists, she proves to him that her intention to start a business is real. He then explains to her the function of a VC.
Bommi also represents the viewer. Bommi also requires this information because the writers have written her to be as ambitious as Maara. The information about VCs delivered by Maara feeds information to Bommi and the viewer.
When Bommi mentions 'appo VC ya dhaan pudikanum aakum', it tells the viewer what Maara's next objective is in the story.
Then she asks him about the person in the picture, and Maara replies with all the information about Paresh Goswami. It doesn't feel like the viewer is randomly getting information. By providing her with the necessary information,he shows her that he respects her ambition as well.
Once she gets all the information that she has needed, Bommi defends Maara when her father questions Maara's dream. She talks about electricity, car, etc., showing her dad (and Maara) that necessity is the mother of invention.
This gives Maara the confidence that Bommi will be someone who will support him in his challenging journey. He says yes to the proposal.
However, the writers ensure Maara does not have the last say on choosing Bommi by showing that Bommi thinks things through before making a final decision.
This dialog justifies her rejection(indirectly asking him to show him he's a man of his word) of Maara a couple of scenes later. She also starts pursuing her dream.
The scene achieves its two purposes: to deliver information to the viewer to know what is required to successfully start a business organization and also kickstart a romance between Maara and Bommi.
