Autism is one of the few descriptors that can be tacked onto woman that makes people think it’s ok to compare us to men, if that makes sense. I’ve also rarely seen men of an oppressed group actively root against women in the same group, outside of autism.

It’s not uncommon for autistic men to devalue autistic women and our achievements because we fit into the standard non autistic society. Even though that ability comes to us mainly through the fact we are neglected by the mental health system.

We are adaptable and we learn to be at a very young age for our own safety. Many autistic men never have to live that. They are the standard for autism. A lot of people don’t even know women can have autism to begin with

To be completely frank, I’ve never met an adult autistic woman who hasn’t been assaulted or raped in her life. Our rates of abuse are some of the highest but it’s rarely ever spoken about because it’s such a dark subject and we are a small portion of the world

I won’t lie it feels very hopeless sometimes. But I know if I actually speak about it more people will come to understand, and they can help us speak about it.
