You will find many people opposed to the Kemetic movement who will claim, "Egyptians aren't Black." They are 100% right because we are not talking about Egypt but Kemet; they are not the same civilization.
Egypt came into existence in the 4th-century bce as Aegyptos under the Greco-Ptolemaic dynasty. Over the centuries, Greeks, Romans, Arabs, and Turks have usurped the dominate population of the lower Nile Valley.
The pre-Ptolemaic people of that region never referred to their country as Egypt, but Kemet (the Black Nation).

All of the great achievements of Kemet took place long before the emergence of "Egypt." Thus, this account is NOT about Egypt but Kemet.
There is no such thing as "Ancient Egypt" so we need to stop referring to Kemet as that. Let the beige race in the Lower Nile have their "Egyptian" identity because we are not talking about Egypt but Kemet.
Egyptians cannot speak one word of Kemetic nor practice any of their culture.
Even the invaders who adopted Kemetic language (the Coptics) and creolized it with Greek, have not spoken Coptic for centuries because they were not attached to it since it was never really their language.
The fact that the Egyptians are not related to Kemet is evident in the disrespect they showed to the Kemetic artifacts. They had absolutely no regard for it. They are the ones who destroyed all of the great temples and used them to build churches and then mosques.
Only in the very south (where the Nubian Indigenous Kemetyu live) were the temples preserved because the Nubians respected their heritage.
It was only in the 19th-century when the Europeans came and Egypt became a tourist destination for the artifacts that the Egyptians started to want to identify with Kemet.
But don't be fooled, they are officially the Arab Republic of Egypt for a reason: they are Arabs and not Kemetyu.

The indigenous people that still live in the southern parts of Egypt are not socially referred to as "Egyptian" but Nubian.
The term Nubian is also not an ancient term but refers to the indigenous populations still in the Nile Valley (both Kemetyu and Kushites).
While they are politically "Egyptians" as far as tax-paying goes, they are not considered real Egyptians by the very Egyptians who persecute them under the name "Nubian." The Nubians today were largely pushed into the south and are increasingly pushed out into the desert.
Referring to Kemet as "Ancient Egypt" is as ridiculous as referring to the Iroquois or Cherokee as Ancient Americans as if the masses of Euro-Americans today have any lineage from those people.
This is why terms like Pre-Columbian or Pre-American are more sensible, just as the term Pre-Egyptian is more sensible when describing Kemet if you insist on using the word "Egyptian" at all.
The Kemetyu (modern Nubians) do still exist in Egypt, though as an oppressed minority. Attached is a photo of indigenous Kemetyu who live in the Siwa Oasis in the Egyptian desert.
