A thread on the pieces of evidence pointing towards the Fetts either being Mandalorians or not being Mandalorians in Canon.
I will keep updating this until it is confirmed without a shadow of a doubt.
Here's a recap for Legends. Jango Fett was inducted into the Mandalorians as a child and was adopted as the heir of Jaster Mereel. After Mereel's death, Jango would become the new Mand'alor. Later on, Boba would become Mand'alor himself after accepting his Mando heritage.
Now back to Canon. The Fetts have been referred to as Mandalorian Bounty Hunters in various toys and other merch. This doesn't have any weight as far as confirming anything, but it is odd that they refer to them as such if they're not Mandos.
I'm sure various character encyclopedias have stated that the Fetts aren't Mandos. However, I don't want to search through every single one to document them all so we will just treat them as a known factor.
The first time we see it mentioned by an in-universe character is in The Clone Wars episode: The Mandalore Plot. Almec tells Kenobi that Jango was "No more than a common bounty hunter" and that he didn't know how he acquired his armor.
This is hard to believe imo. Almec is the only character to make note of it, he is against the warrior past of Mandalore, and he is a bit of a hypocrite. So, take his word as you will.
The next possibility I point out is in the episode "The Heiress" of The Mandalorian S2. Bo Katan meets with Din Djarin and confirms that there are multiple sects or groups of Mandalorians. We've seen The New Mandalorians, the Death Watch, and now the Children of the Watch.
What is to stop Favreau from adding in a new group that the Fetts are apart of? Like the True Mandalorians from Legends. Maybe they have different views from the other groups and they were shunned by them.
