THE BEST KANYE SONG THAT MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT (PINOCHIO STORY).
If you’ve skipped this song, I don’t blame you. The last song on 808’s and Heartbreak, “Pinnochio Story,” is a top ten Kanye song for me. Ye never dropped a studio version but used the audio from his freestyle in Singapore over an orchestra and I’ll tell you why this was genius.
This song tells us about a celebrity’s constant struggle with fame and how this materialistic lifestyle has taken them farther away from having a “real life.” Michael Jackson at his biggest, was so lonely he would talk to mannequins and would ask random people to be his friend.
This song is so genius because it’s a freestyle, it’s Kanye’s raw emotions being poured out. It didn’t need a studio version because that would come off as less authentic. It was so good that Beyoncé heard it and told Kanye he had to add it to the album (808’s and Heartbreak).
Having Kanye pour all these dark emotions out while the crowd continues to scream and cheer him on, shows us how we treat celebrities. They can show us they are in pain and we will still continue to cheer it on because it’s entertaining to us. They aren’t people in our eyes.
Kanye sings about not stepping out of line and making sure he stays in the boundaries set by fame or he’ll get hurt. That is Kanye for you, he’s been going against all of that his whole career and as a result, the world and media has crucified him for it.
Kanye performed this song again in one his best performances ever at the “Hollywood Bowl.” This performance is so sad to watch and perfectly sums up the loneliness that comes with fame. It’s ironic.
In the Hollywood Bowl performance, Kanye is in a constricted costume while dancing stiffly as he sings “there are no clothes I could buy, that could turn back in time. There is no vacation spot I could fly, that could bring back a piece of real life.” (CONTINUED...)
This shows, no matter how much he has, he can’t buy real love or a real life. He continues with “don’t miss, the cameras on, you got to do it like this” showing the immense pressure that all celebrities face in everything they do. Any mistake could mean the end of their career.
All in all, this is one of Kanye’s best songs and is a true representation of the life of a celebrity. It also shows that the materialism that we place so high won’t always make us happy but instead can only take us farther away from happiness and make us more lonely.
I highly recommend y’all check this song out if you haven’t already or give it another chance, it really is one of Kanye’s best songs. Also check out Kanye’s performance of this song at the Hollywood Bowl, it’s one of his best ever.
