My last set of tweets (for now) on this Labour Party Islamophobia report.

Apologies to followers who follow for other reasons and I have spammed your TL.

I’m really passionate about tackling anti-Muslim hatred and have been vocal about it since I was 20.
Usually, I try to highlight all positive stories about Muslims as our religion has been hijacked by extremists over the years, especially post 9/11.

I don’t work for any particular organisation or political party.

I try to keep an open mind and tweet purely on what I observe.
I am also against self elected community leaders and organisations who do not represent a very diverse Muslim community with dozens of different ethnicities, languages and culture.

We are not a monolith community.
These organisations tend to be made up primarily of men over 40, sometimes token women roles to do lower end of the scales jobs like community engagement and run around. Never decision makers.

By acting as gatekeepers, they block our viewpoints. Not mine, but all of us.
The mainstream media and government bodies approach these guys for views on policy and other things.

This is a problematic set up and we need to move away from this.
These community reps and organisations are not inclusive and will obviously be biased. It’s natural.

I speak to many Muslim women friends on here and off in private who claim they get overlooked.

My first point of contact is Muslim women who I feel are more rational.
Many women complain about how they are completely blocked from attending many Muslim events.

I have many Lesbian/Gay friends, they feel the same.
These orgs do not want younger professionals from diverse backgrounds to be engaged or have their say because we challenge status quo.

Miqdaad Versi pretends to be a decent man but he actually comes across as very arrogant.
They claim to be umbrella bodies and help Muslims but not Muslims like me and anyone who questions them.
So it’s really disheartening to see brainwashed people come in your mentions and attack YOU for questioning things.

I’m not here to ‘tarnish’ Muslim organisations, I support those who do good but will destroy those who don’t.
How this relates to the Labour Islamophobia?

The Muslim orgs & reps are primarily left wing and Labour supporters. Most Labour MPs are their friends. They will not challenge issues with same energy.

This is just one of the examples why this umbrella body set up doesn’t work.
I’ve been having conversations all today about a way forward and only solution was to set up a network of Muslim professionals across the country including women in leadership.
It would be a modern & young ish professional network.

Some issues with this:

People warned us that these orgs will attempt to bully and attack you because it puts them out of jobs.

There is a risk of us also blocking representation from those who are less advantaged.
It’s also very resource intensive and everyone is very busy with their careers - most are docs, pharmacists, engineers, & lawyers.

I don’t know what will happen.

We’re brainstorming.

But inshallah the future is bright and its game over for these uncles.
