Personal finance is important but we have to stop pretending that being good with money or building individual wealth is THE solution to fixing oppressive systems.
To me, this is just a progressive rebrand of the bootstrap narrative. You are never going to negotiate your way to closing the wage gap.
And this messaging only reinforces oppressive systems because it ensures people will always choose their own power, status, and wealth over any kind of social equality.
Personal finance is a product. And that's fine! It can be useful and helpful for a lot of people to know how to navigate the system. But let's stop pretending it's some panacea for fighting inequality. If it were, it would've worked by now...for everyone.
