evident from my work but I am a defender of the diner story genre. I also agree w/ the criticism that too many have let voters repeat the same stuff over + over. U square both w/ reporting that moves past that and framing/data that acknowledges the limits of talking to 12 ppl
I also think some of the reax is about institutions + individual reporters who have not extended that same level of focus on nonwhite or blue/urban communities. I also quite obviously agree w/ that. You are not explaining politics in America if that is only Trump voters/white ppl
hard part is asking Qs that push past euphemism. It takes time, and some uncomfort, to get folks past "he's not a politican/he says what he thinks" and to a more explicit explanation. that reporting is what separates valuable diner stories from the rest imo
