So, I'm seeing a lot of worry & outright fearmongering about the #COVID19 vaccine. I'm not entertaining the amti-vax, microchip & secret control crowds - they're beyond hope. This is about "it's untested/been rushed/we can't trust the process/it's unknown science/etc. #vaccine
All vaccines have the same stringent standards & test phases, but usually the developers have to wait for funding for said phases. Several Covid vaccines are in stage 3 - human testing. This is what happens when you fund science properly and cut #research red tape.
#VaccinesWork
It's also a wonderful example of what happens when scientists are able to freely collaborate. 😉
As for long term effects. These are calculated via modelling & prediction. #COVID19 vaccines are based on existing coronavirus vaccines like the #FluVaccine and SARS.
@NIHRresearch
Data already exists to help our predictions. There's still a bit of the unknown, unfortunately, but researchers can & do minimise risks to make it as safe as possible - like the annual flu vaccine. Of courses this is all heavily regulated & inspected to make sure it's done right.
So to summarise: this is a science-led, independently-verified #vaccine using a process that's been streamlined not shortcut due to the unprecedented situation of a global pandemic far deadlier than the flu with complex, lifelong complications unlike anything we've seen before.
As a Covid survivor living through this, & a nurse who's seen too many people die or be changed forever, I can't wait for it to be approved (if it is) & made available because I wouldn't wish Covid on anyone. 😞
This post isn't designed to scare or shame, but provide information.
Whether or not you have the #vaccine is your decision to make. Noone is denying that. But a little knowledge goes a long way in making an informed choice. I hope this has helped.
And to all those working tirelessly to perfect it - including the volunteers testing it - thank you.
