Frank Lampard Nostalgia: A Thread
2003/04. As an 8 year old (clueless, I admit) watching the occasional game, the 2-1 comeback win against Arsenal in the CL made me fall in love with Chelsea. Goals from Frank and Wayne Bridge, with Frank, Makelele, Gudjohnsen all having great games. Start of the Roman Era
2004/05. Wide eyed 9 year old idolizing the man wearing 8. Smug every week coz we were winning against everyone. Double against Bolton to seal the league. Began worshipping Super Frank and the team. The goal on the swivel against Bayern is still one of my favorites in football
2005/06. One of the best seasons ever for a midfielder in football. 16 goals in the league. Second in the Ballon D'or rankings. League champions again. 4-1 win at Anfield with a Frank penalty laid down the markers early on in the season, and we never looked back
2006/07. United ran away with the league, and with Ballack and Shevchenko coming in, the margin of their league win hurt. But we won both domestic cups, and Frank was captain for majority of the season with JT out injured. Fav games, 3-2 win away to Everton, and the FAcup final
2007/08. Season of upheaval. Jose left. Frank played for us one week after his mum passed in the CL semis against Liverpool. Scored a pen and we won. Cried for the 1st time as a Chelsea fan. Cried again at Moscow with JT. Fav game Chelsea 6 - 0 City
2008/09. The failed Scolari experiment, but we played like Brazilians, also defended like them :D. In came Hiddink, led us to the FA cup, Also, fuck Barca, its still a disgrace!
Fav game - Chelsea 2 - 1 Stoke. Lampard belter in injury time
2009/10 My fav season. Ancelotti's chelsea was a juggernaut, and we played irrepressible football. Frank ended the season with 27 goals all comps, and the goal off a Hutchinson cross against Stoke was one of his best ever. Fave game Chelsea 8 Wigan 0
2011/12 The AVB experiment failed, Robbie Di Matteo came in, and how! Reinstated Frank and Didier to the team. Napoli, Benfica, Barcelona and Bayern, Frank was pivotal throughout. 19/05/2012 will be my next tattoo. Won the FA cup as well with a Frank assist to Didier.
2012-2014 Latter years. Switching to a 4-2-3-1 meant Frank operated deeper. Still scored 21 goals in the league in 2 years. Broke Bobby Tambling's record. Won the Europa league in 2013. Left as a club legend and arguably our club's best player ever
I know its impossible to capture what Frank means to the club with Twitter's character limit. Wanted to take a shot at giving a tribute to the man who made me fall in love with the game. He's now our manager, and will take us back to where we belong
