As long as we are doing this, let’s bring in an organizer’s perspective (short thread)

First this: 2020 was the most explicit example of an “all-turnout” strategy on both sides. Both parties beat turnout expectations, but indications are there was very little, if any, cross-over for candidates. /2
Mistake to suspend door knocking? There’s no evidence for this. Turnout was insanely high. And being safe was, thanks to the GOP, actually a partisan statement in itself.
However, down-ballot digital lagged and should have taken up some slack /3

Is Arizona Blue or Purple?
Definitely purple. GOP voters outnumber Dems by 130k statewide and 90k in Maricopa County.
Dems are underdogs in every statewide and County race. That’s just math. Winning any office is a big deal /4

Did money miss down-ballot races? Yes. That’s not really unusual and it needs to be fixed.
Legislative candidates are your ground game (or should be). But they need to be staffed by at least three paid professionals each, and that’s just not happening.
Pay to staff!

GOP has been able to successfully drag down candidates by tarring them with associations and issues the candidates aren’t running on. (aka “defund the police,” and so on).
This is because individual candidates aren’t establishing their own identities and breaking through. /6

Add to this a general failure to message as a Party in the state and counties. Each candidate was left to carry the water for the party while trying to deliver their own message. An impossible job.
The moral: if you don’t define yourself, opponents will gladly do it for you /7

Finally, voter education. Close races were decided by the margin in undervotes (races left blank down ballot). That’s a Party job, and we need to do better. /8
Summing up:
-better digital
-pay for staff for leg candidates
-persuasion can’t be ignored
-break through with sustained engagement on a personal level
-party platforms need to be clear to everyone
- don’t let the opponent set your identity
- continuous voter ed
