Why are Black ppl always forced to love our enemies, while white ppl are never encouraged to stop being our enemy?
Idk if this makes sense but I’m annoyed lol. We’re always forced to forgive while they’re never forced to stop doing things that need to be forgiven.
To be clear, I never said forgiveness was wrong. I’m saying trying to force Black folks to continuously forgive a group of people that find happiness in torturing us is wrong. EXPECTING forgiveness when we haven’t even scratched the surface of our trauma is deplorable.
Forgiveness is healthy. A lot of times we forgive not to please the perpetrator, but so we don’t hold hate in our hearts. I’m not condemning Black folks who choose not to, bc we’ve been through a lot. I also think shaming Black folks who do forgive is wrong.
Our love for our people should be first. I try not to be concerned with what white folks are doing. Whether they like me or not isn’t my problem, my problem is when they have the power to hurt me and/or my ppl. That’s another convo tho

Bottom line, the way white folks expect and demand forgiveness is WEIRD. The way white folks aren’t demanded to stop traumatizing my community is even weirder. Forgiveness is a beautiful thing, but forgiveness doesn’t mean the perpetrator evades the consequences.
