1/ Wrote a bit here (On Fortnite's Travis Concert), but important to understand today’s virtual concerts as 3 things (1) Technical R&D; (2) Creative R&D; (3) Social experience

Virtual 'games' are shifting away from game-like goals to non-game-like ones https://www.matthewball.vc/all/fortnitetravisscott
2/
Game-like: Win, kill, score, achieve

Non-game-like: Express, share, create, enjoy

This is a big transition, and there's few "knowns" beyond primitives like "happiness is important" or "social is important"

So we're in this very early discovery phase https://twitter.com/ballmatthew/status/1255505687112712193?s=20
3/ So easy to look at these things and say "eh, don't want to do that 100x" or "sure graphics will improve, but"

Right way to think is the early 1900s in film. Yes, cameras + screens improved in following century, but we also discovered how to shoot, what stories to tell, etc
4/ The addition of interactivity, additional "planes", multiple entry points (e.g. you can go into the concert directly, or watch on Twitch) means there are *so* many more variables to play with.

Scorsese came decades into film's exploration, is better decades later still
5/ Big perk is that the feedback loops are much shorter, the data far richer, the audiences far larger, the tech improving much faster.

Going to be really fun to watch. Though interesting how much farther Epic was in April '20 (or Dec '19) than rest of market today
