My 1st mile is always the slowest. Is yours? If not, then why not? I know from yrs of experience it takes my aerobic system 10mins or so to really kick in. Until then I’m gasping & feeling terrible. Then as if by magic my pace naturally lifts and I can chat away all run #running
Not to mention the fact my muscles start to loosen off & my mobility improves too. So my starting shuffle-come-hobble turns in majestic strides (ok I’m PROBABLY kidding myself here!

) as my stride increases from 1.1ms 1st mile to 1.24ms on the last mile which says it all!

It takes our aerobic energy system anywhere between 5-20min to work fully effectively. Until then you’re using your anaerobic system to plug the gap. Hence your effort feels much greater. So don’t worry! Allow yourself time to warm up properly. Make your 1st mile the slowest too
