I wonder if wp would be willing to be brutally honest in admitting all they learned/heard about marginalized/vulnerable communities growing up ... was in fact ... a lie. What’s something you learned/heard that you know now was a lie? Willing to share openly?
I was told by a white gym teacher that I’d never be as fast as my Black bff bc she had extra tendons in her ankles (bc Black) that made her run faster. I was 10. Seriously. WTF? She coulda just said .. she’s faster/better than u & u really need to practice on endurance. But no.
I grew up in Tulsa. Went to Tulsa public schools. Was never taught about Tulsa race massacre. It was never mentioned once.
Bc if we’re ever gonna truly get anywhere .. we have to be brutally honest about all the lies we were fed .. everywhere we went. And we have to absolutely unlearn all those lies.
How many wp are willing to admit that even still today .. if they’re out and about and they see someone not white walking toward them or too close to them (by their standards) they still get a lil anxious? They hold their purses tighter? Etc.
My Governor still likes to blame marginalized/vulnerable communities for getting/dying of Covid at alarming rates on overly crowded households. No mention of why folks may be forced to live multi-family. No mention of pay being drastically less. No pushback from wp media either.
No mention of overly crowded work places where they have no choice but to go to work or be fired.
