Our economy is in trouble. Why? The virus has roared back. With COVID-19 cases again overwhelming hospitals, leaders across the country are, for the sake of us all, limiting large gatherings and activities that cause the disease to spread – like indoor dining. 1/8
The fact that the United States has failed to contain the virus means that millions of esp small biz & workers will (again) see their incomes fall & livelihoods potentially destroyed. Congress must put together a robust relief plan to support communities through this crisis. 2/8
This isn’t a maybe/someday kind of thing Congress "should" do. It’s urgent. It’s important. & it needs to be of sufficient scope & scale to address the economic problems at hand. That means targeted at the hardest hit -- esp communities of color 3/8
Of course, job one to keeping our economy on track is to contain the virus. 4/8
We need to maximize resiliency. Let's make sure that financial relief gets to the workers and businesses affected by this economic shock so they can weather this storm, and to the state and local governments on the front line of the crisis so they can do their job. 5/8
Let’s make sure that schools and daycares have the resources and support they need to open -- or stay open – safely so parents can get to work, and ensure employers have what they need so that their place of business isn’t the next virus hotspot. 6/8
Congress came together in March & did good. Work that magic again! The sensible path is ongoing $$$ until the virus is contained, & the unemployment rate comes back down. Using an “off trigger” will ensure that no matter what the virus does, our economy will be protected. 7/8
&, don't forget, superheroes wear masks. 8/8
