Took some notes. Will stare my thoughts in a brief thread. https://twitter.com/meljomur/status/1327994259975319560
First of all, may I just commend the tireless work of @LesleyRiddoch. Whenever there is anything to do with Indy, she is involved. Kudos to her. Also, her patience in this interview is amazing. I think I would have been seeing red by the end of it.
Now about Ian Blackford. Well what can I say, I am sure most of us who watched it felt just deflated after that 22 minutes. Uggh. He was evasive, defensive, and had very little clarity on the realistic path towards indy.
He calls for @theSNP to be given a majority in the 2021 election. So already the Party are setting a very high bar, one that any political geek knows is very difficult for ANY Party to achieve, due to the Scottish Parliament voting system.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to conclude if @theSNP don't achieve a majority, they will most likely use it as an excuse not to pursue an indyref2. Never mind how the unionists will paint this. A blow for indy, etc...
Blackford then goes on to say that Westminster is preparing for Indyref2. But when pressed on this issue, he fails to give a clear answer. Only some waffle about Gove and the Internal Market Bill.
Not sure how planning to take away powers from the devolved Parliaments is an indication that the UK Gov. is preparing for an indyref. Seems to me this is WM actually planning to weaken the Scottish Parly. Hence making an indyref even MORE of a challenge.
I did notice about halfway through, Lesley Riddoch becoming increasingly frustrated with how evasive Blackford was. But once again the fact she still remained so calm is a testament to her professionalism.
Ian was asked about the Section 30 Order lawsuit and why the Scottish Gov. was putting up obstacles to it? His answer, once again clear as mud. Something about all avenues need to be explored before a legal route is pursued.
But he didn't really answer the question. More waffle and evasion.
In conclusion, if you watched this interview in hope for some clarity on a coherent path to independence for Scotland and any sort of plan before begging once again for a Section 30 Order, you will be sorely disappointed.
I will add, this interview confirmed to me 100% that Scotland definitely needs more pro-Indy Parties in the Scottish Parly.
