Yesterday, a white woman tried to manipulate me. She tried to twist my words to fit her political agenda. She tried to gaslight me. She tried to silence me by targeting my race.
I didn’t give her that power. I went about my day. I did what I always do when I need to escape whiteness. I found comfort in the arms of my community. With the Black women who see me, love me, and bring me joy. Thank you @Kishahowell3 for creating the Harambee Collective.
“America accepts unequal opportunity, education, employment, income, housing, health care, law enforcement, and violence based on skin color as just the way things are. Even when inequalities are recognized, institutional structures create obstacles to achieving justice.
It has been this way in one form or another since the first slaver ships arrived on these shores.” ~ @ABAesq https://www.americanbar.org/groups/crsj/publications/chair-column-archive/no-return-to-normal/
So there is no “return to normal” for me. The normal where we just accepted injustice as a way of life never cut it. We will move forward abolishing institutions that perpetuate marginalization and oppression - including schools.
Racism in schools is insidious. To the antiracist and co - conspirators calling it out, we see you and appreciate you. There is much work to be done. https://twitter.com/sonjacherrypaul/status/1327747649555075078?s=21
