Sometime in the past decade I spent all my heart and some of my time in an ICU, visiting a loved one who would have died without the medical care they received there.
1/
They had a lot of tubes, including the ones for air, nutrition, hydration. We had rules as visitors, to ensure all patients in the ICU could receive needed care.
2/
If there had been no ICU beds available, or no ventilators, my loved one would have likely died. They’ve brought joy to many lives since recovering.
3/
The chance you will need acute care on any given day is tiny. Hospital resources are finite: I read this morning of a Winnipeg cancer patient who had no access to intubation and died.
4/
It’s hard to not gather in community. It’s stressful to be indoors where ventilation and masks aren’t good enough. Everything’s disrupted. Life is harder and more expensive.

Wear a good mask correctly when you’re out. Stay home as you’re able.
We can save lives.
