Heidegger's interview with Thai Buddhist monk Bhikku Maha Mani (1963):

I. "You've thought deeply about the essence of man for decades, what insights have you come to?"

Heidegger: "Man is distinguished by having a language, that is, by existing in a knowing-relation to Being..."
II. "Would it be better to create a new basic stance to life, or should one deepen the teachings of religion?"

Heidegger: "The Western relation to the entire world today is no longer transparent, but confused...in the modern world science itself is held as a kind of religion..."
III. "Why don't you try to convey your thoughts to people via modern media, like radio and TV?"

Heidegger: "This thinking is at first so difficult that only a few people can be trained for it...only a few people are capable of the condition for this thinking themselves..."
IV. "Is there any point of contact between technology & philosophy?"

Heidegger: "Modern technology arose out of philosophy...There's a famous claim by a German physicist, Max Planck, which says: 'Reality is only what is measurable'...this thought determines all of technology..."
V. "People without religion are often called communists in the West, while others who live with religion are called crazy. What do you think?"

Heidegger: "I would say that no person is without religion, and every person is, in some way, beyond themselves, that is, 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘻𝘺."
VI. "Should we abolish religion and philosophy..?"

Heidegger: "The nature of man is finite...your country [Thailand], on the basis of its ancient and ongoing traditions, is highly developed. By contrast, the Americans, with their technology and atomic bombs, are underdeveloped."
VII. "Is there a way to bring people together into harmony?"

Heidegger: "There is no common ground today for direct and simple understanding...today we, not only in Germany but Europe generally, have no clear, common, and simple relation to reality and to ourselves..."
