If you were trying to do a long Sunday run in Glasgow, on a grey, wet morning, how many football pitches could you think of to get around. My loop this morning squeezed in about 16, past and present. 1/7 #runningviews
Started at West of Scotland cricket ground in Partick, where the world's first international match was played in 1872. Across the Clyde to Ibrox, and then New Tinto Park, home of Benburn FC, and Bellahouston Park. 2/7
Pollok Estate has several pitches, I ran past Norwood, Home to Giffnock SC" on my way to Newlandsfield, home to Pollok FC. Then on to Lesser Hampden where Queens Park are based. 3/7
Next is Hampden Stadium, unbelievably home to 2 home ties next year for Scotland in Euro2020. Did you know Andy Robertson used to...oh, you've heard. The functional Toryglen Football Centre is nearby, and one-time home to Third Lanark, the evocative Cathkin Park. 4/7
Back across the Clyde via Shawfield Stadium (first women's football game under SFA rules in 1892 here). Past Celtic Park to Petershill Park where Glasgow City FC play, winning 13 titles in a row last year in the SWPL. On to Ashfield FC's ground they share with the speedway. 5/7
Now, past Keppoch Park, where Glasgow Perthshire FC to the epicentre of Glasgow footballing pain, Firhill Stadium. From Partick Thistle's ground it's just a short trot along the canal to Lockburn Park, where Maryhill FC play, the first team I was taken to watch as a child. 6/7
19 mile loop. I know there are plenty more out there, but I will leave that for another time. I am soaking wet, my feet are sore. Soon enough we will get the chance to stand together in these grounds again and remember how miserable watching football can be. 7/7 #footballgrounds
