Some of you have never had to do without, and boy does it show. https://twitter.com/carlzimmer/status/1327790189004136449
Just to be clear: I’m thinking of people with chronic health conditions who don’t have this choice but miss loved ones, too. Of folks who are healthcare workers who are burning out and need us to re-flatten the curve. Who don’t have access to healthcare if they get sick.
I’m seeing a lot of “have empathy for people who miss family and friends” as though I don’t also feel that, as someone who hasn’t stopped isolating for eight months. I have few family elders left. I hate the thought of missing out on a holiday with them. But I absolutely will.
I’ve gone years without seeing family in the past because I couldn’t afford the travel or time off work or school. I won’t put their life in danger now for less. My empathy isn’t selective. I want all of us to get through this.
