Feeling quite proud of myself today.
Normally when people honk at me to move out of their way I’m so shocked and startled that I do without thinking.
But not today.
Normally when people honk at me to move out of their way I’m so shocked and startled that I do without thinking.
But not today.
Today, when a neighbour honked at Mal and I in our shared space in our estate, we both stopped, turned and calmly asked the driver if that was necessary.
When she got mad, Mal walked to her window and asked her next time, if she wanted her neighbours to move, perhaps she could put her window down and say excuse me instead of honking
I can’t say she responded very maturely — putting her hands over her ears and saying I can’t hear you and then edging her car further and further forward despite Mal standing there
But this is proof that the deep, ingrained belief from decades of living in a car dominant society that drivers matter more than me is slowly eroding.
Changes like the low traffic neighbourhood are showing me I matter too
