the unnecessary hate towards Nesta Archeron : a thread
1. let’s begin w her and Feyre’s past. we see that feyre dislikes nesta as much as nesta does her immediately making feyre an unreliable narrator. she doesn’t help Feyre provide for the family and makes rude comments. this does not make her an irredeemable character, it simply-
2. - it simply makes her an angry young girl who lost her mother and felt so unloved by her father, she thought she had to be on the brink of death for him to care, and he didn’t. we then blame this ALL on Nesta, rather than her legal guardian being her father-
3.- this does not excuse her actions, but it does explain them and we can sympathise w her extreme measures whether we agree w them or not. we later find out she goes after Feyre after she was taken by Tamlin, showing that she isn’t a monster or completely selfish-
4.- and that she does care for Feyre. she then meets the 3 batboys and is stand offish, due to her dislike towards the fae, which is understandable considering the fact they used to enslave humans and they let them starve, there has been bad blood between fae and humans long-
5. - before Nesta came into the picture. let’s move onto her and Rhysands relationship. he constantly treats her like shit as she let Feyre hunt in the woods alone (something we can’t forget since she mentions it every other chapter). Rhys can’t forget Nesta’s-
6.- rude behaviour, but he can manage to forget the fact that he sexually assaulted Feyre by touching her body after he drugged her and forcing his lips onto his whilst she was paralysed w fear. (this was directly quoted in ACOTAR)-
7.- Rhys and Feyre are just as (if not more) disrespectful that Nesta, from Feyre comparing her hunting to Mor being butchered and sold by her family, them having sex in a war camp and then a sanctuary for victims of SA, and Rhys inviting Mors abusers w/o giving her warning-
8. - throughout ACOWAR, we see her develop from a girl angry at the world, to a woman unafraid to fight. she then assists in the death of the King of Hybern thus ending the war. i’ve seen ppl say ‘well Nazis fought in a war too doesnt mean they’re good’, how can you-
9.- compare soldiers in a real life war and one of the greatest genocides in history, to a 21 year old girl in a YA fantasy book. i’ve also seen comments saying after her rudeness in ACOFAS, in order to be redeemed once more, she must be ‘physically overpowered’-
10.- just say you hate strong female characters and go tbh. it IS misogyny bc no matter how much ppl deny it, if Nesta was a man, she’d be dark and brooding (like how ppl saw Rowan in HoF). in ACOFAS, Nesta has reverted but she isn’t taking out her anger on-
11.- anyone, instead she wishes to be left alone however Feyre forces her to come to a party. we hate her for being unsociable (is that even a reason at this point wtf) when it’s actually bc she can’t stand loud, big groups w/o remembering the war and ppls cracking bones-
12. -something Feyre can not relate to considering she did (mind my language) fuck all for the final war. and to finish on, let me briefly talk about her relationship w Cassian, and how her rejecting his gift and refusing to dance w him does not make her a bitch or a terrible-
13.- person, but rather someone who doesn’t owe Cassian a single thing and is not obligated to return his feelings. we view Nesta as the bad guy in the relationship, yet Cassian continues to go after her, after she’s made her dislike for a relationship w him clear. idc if her-
14.- ‘body is traitorous’ and wanting him, her voice is saying ‘no’.
so that’s pretty much it, if anyone has anything to add or discuss feel free
