thinking about how

hoshino said to haru: "if you're leaving now, you are not a police or a hero."

meanwhile

daisuke said: "you're not just a civil servant. for all this time, you've always been a hero."

before hoshino stans + haryou shippers get mad at me, let me elaborateā€“
from short glance, it's really easy to write off hoshino as acting like an asshole to haru with his words, because it's so different from daisuke's tender, supportive speech to haru.

but is it, really? was hoshino actually being mean to haru? no, i don't suppose so.
daisuke and hoshino's words had the same sentiment. only difference was: which version of haru that they were dealing with at the moment.

though seemingly different, they were trying to encourage haru ā€“ hoshino's was in challenging manner and daisuke's in faithful manner.
so, what? does this mean daisuke knows haru better than hoshino?

uh, well. yes and no. yes, because daisuke is able to quickly grasp haru's personality and feeling; and no, because under different circumstance, hoshino could've understood haru the way daisuke does.
the thing about hoshino is, he knew haru before haru suffered the trauma. from the flashbacks (ep 3) we could see how proud he was of his haru-senpai. in hoshino's vision, haru was a fearless, just, all-around great person who never knew when the fuck to stop.
in ep 9, hoshino told haru: "you hate takei-san" which gave away that he'd always thought the reason haru went away from division one was because haru couldn't stand his higher-ups and sick of being a pawn to his superiors ā€“ this explains hoshino's attitude in ep 1.
like, remember? in ep 1, hoshino was so vocal in ridiculing haru's complaints to the higher-ups over human lives in mortal danger.

it was him mocking haru for what he thought was haru's reason for leaving division one ā€“ and leaving the concept of "being a police and a hero"
as viewers, yes we can understand how pained haru was by the accident. and how the damage to his mental was so ultimately severe.

but haru pushed hoshino away (literally, even) and hoshino never got to really understand what and how haru really felt about the whole thing.
for all he knew, the reason haru didn't wanna/couldn't shoot anymore was because it reminded him of the time takei (his leader) "tricked" him and caused him to almost kill someone.

that's why hoshino saying "you hate takei-san" is important to understand his POV about haru.
hoshino finding haru's resignation letter was the catalyst to hoshino's change of view. idk what's inside that letter, but judging from hoshino's change, i assume haru was apologizing to takei for leaving and how delirious he was because he'd injured someone.
hoshino said: "if you leave now, you're not a police or a hero." because he didn't notice something in haru had broken and what haru needed wasn't someone who could challenge him to keep going, but someone who could believe in him and assured him that despite all, he was a hero.
i can't blame hoshino, tho.

ironically, the reason he didn't realize haru's trauma was because he had so much faith in haru and thought something like that wouldn't have stopped haru. baby thought haru simply hated takei and just left. he's wrong, tho šŸ˜• it's really sad.
i honestly don't know what's the purpose of me typing this shit down this long when yall probably already know this and i'm just hella slow. but i wanted to talk about haru and hoshino's bond seriously and i did. goodbye.
