“mental health” activism needs to decenter depression & anxiety and center schizophrenic people, obsessive compulsive people, & people w personality disorders
quotations bc i have a bone to pick w using “mental health” when talking about *mental illness* in specific. we’re dancing around using the term mental illness bc of ableism and bc it reminds people too much of us people who are “actually crazy”
its not a competition of who is more ill. but you can’t deny that depression and anxiety is overrepresented while other conditions are obscured. you can’t deny that the rest of us deal with things people w/ depression and/or anxiety will never deal with.
you cant deny that its us - as well as other neurodiverse people who don’t fall under mental illness umbrellas - that have suffered the bulk of the historical and present (specifically anti-mentally ill/neurodiverse) ableist violence talked about in advocacy discussions
addendum to first tweet - also people with dissociative disorders
