This government has taken a number of actions aimed at limiting its legal accountability. By limiting judicial review and weakening the highest court in the land the government is ensuring it can’t be held accountable to legal or constitutional norms. /2

Combined with Brexit, which removes oversight from European legal institutions, legal oversight of government decisions is being eroded. A situation that is even more worrying when faced with a government that is happy to break constitutional norms for political gain. /3

I know it’s been pointed out before, and by much smarter commentators than me, but this systematic dismantling of the structures that underpin the rule of law should concern us all deeply. When they are gone there will be nothing to hold the government to account. /end
