For the record, South South didn’t produce a President in 2010 by design. Jonathan was an accidental president. His acting period, completion of Yar’Ardua’s tenure, PDP nomination and subsequent victory in 2011 were virulently resisted by the “build bridges” brigade of the North
Let’s not even pretend that Obasanjo became president in 1999 simply because he was Yoruba. Not quite. His presidency was catalyzed by annulment of June 12, humiliation of Yorubas by Abacha, murder of Abiola, etc. The North chose their loyalist who happened to be a Yoruba...
If the North, and Nigeria, wanted a Yoruba President in 1999; it would’ve been no other than Bola Ige, Olu Falae or some other mainstream Yoruba politician with authentic Yoruba agenda. Recall that Obasanjo became president in 1999 without Yoruba vote.
There’s a reason Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has been reduced to an inglorious errand boy in Aso Rock despite the North-West alliance that brought them to office. It’s for the same reason that he’s not even in reckoning for 2023 notwithstanding that he’s a sitting Vice President
As should be obvious to all by now, Bola Tinubu’s foolish 2023 ambition is dead on arrival. Predictably, he has been used and dumped. If he’s wise, he should retreat. Else they’ll finish him.
So before you join those insulting Igbos with that building bridges baloney, try to understand where the mindset is coming from. The North sees Nigeria as its colony and like the Afrikaans of Apartheid South Africa, will not give up without a fight.
The atmosphere is ripe to end Northern stranglehold on Nigeria and its power levers. But it can only happen if Yoruba and Igbo push together; at which point the rest of the South and the middle belt can be co-opted to liberate Nigeria from the rule of lazy illiterates.
Until then, Igbo, Ijaw, Yoruba, Tiv, Jukun or Efik presidency is but a pipe dream. Greetings from the sacred grotto of Ogbete.
For the record, South-Middle Belt Alliance is guaranteed to win the presidency as it did for Jonathan in 2011. If the South West voted for Jonathan, Buhari would’ve been minding his cows in Daura till today:
