Slept on it thoughts. Well even without a match this weekend, Derby still give us something to talk about. Cocu, Van Der Weerden & Scheepers leave with a 32.31% win rate with us stuck to the bottom of the table. Something had to change and it felt inevitable #dcfc
First and foremost in accepting a lower settlement fee it’s a classy finish for a man who had the deal with more issues than most do over an entire career. The car crash, the police charges, captain being sacked, the efl charge, soft transfer embargo, cloud of a new owner #dcfc
Its probably a good way to view Cocu’s stint. A nice guy dealt a tough hand. Crucially though he wasn’t skilled enough to do anything with that hand. We all wanted it to work. First overseas manager and a project around homegrown players it had the components to be good #dcfc
If Cocu’s left anything firstly it’s the faith in youth. Bird, Sibley, Buchanan to name a few. It’s a strategy that HAS to continue. Secondly the scouting department finally understood that the continent doesn’t start and end at Gretna, there’s gems out there if you look #dcfc
On the flip side Cocu was his own worse enemy at times. Players shoehorned into positions, lack of attacking ideas & bar the handful games we were rarely a good side to watch. You could never really truly say what a Cocu side. A muddled philosophy translated onto the pitch #dcfc
It’s interesting to hear that players found training boring and match issues were ignored. Its interesting reading back on what Lowe said on leaving said ‘The quality of training is levels above what we’ve been at.’ We never seemed a well coached, disciplined side under Cocu #dcfc
We move onto who next? As we stated before playoffs and even top 10 are gone this season. It’s a fight for survival. With a new owner incoming it’s pivotal we stay in this league. Therefore the new manager has that aim. Stay up. Develop the youth. Then push on next year. #dcfc
An experienced head is needed. All appointments are a risk but a seemingly bigger risk would be Rooney. A player who when the going has been tough this year has not fronted up and let others do the talking. #dcfc
He’ll be a manager one day but does he have the tactical nous for relegation scrap. We don’t know and that alone means he shouldn’t be the man to turn to. Can he motivate this current crop of players? At times this season he doesn’t seem to be able motivate himself #dcfc
Terry? Lack of experience. Cook? Deserves a big job. Lowe? Done well and progressing. Allardyce? He’d get us well drilled. Benetiz? Odds coming down. Lampard and Cocu were so left field appointments it’s hard to speculate. New owners, new manager it’s never boring is it? #dcfc
